Photos from Huntington & Tuckerman, Jan. 28, 2016

Some photos from Huntington and Tuckerman Ravines taken on Thursday, January 28th, 2016 on a bluebird day. Some snow shower activity coming on Friday and Saturday followed by high winds will obscure the terrain for a while. As you can see, limited bed surfaces exist in most areas regardless of the late date on the calendar. Anticipate lots of ice climbing pitches in Huntington with little snow climbing for a while.

Odell and South Gully

L to R, South and Odell Gullies with the base of Central Gully on the far right. Pinnacle Buttress is obscuring Pinnacle Gully in this view.

Damnation and North

The base of Damnation (L) and North Gullies. Ice abounds in all the northern gullies.

Pinnacle Gully

Pinnacle Gully – lots of ice on the final right hand exit. I didn’t get high enough to see Cloudwalker and others on the Central Buttress wall but that is and interesting smear R of the first pitch of Pinnacle.

Tuckerman Ravine:

Right Gully

Right Gully. Its hard to see in this photo but the main gully at the top is still really brushy. Note the pile of rocks still poking out at the bottom.

Lobster Claw

Lobster Claw. Not much to say about that. Probably punchy climbing with all the bushes.

Center Bowl

Center Bowl. Yep, this was taken January, not November, 28th.
